Copyright and Licensing Policy

COPYRIGHT AND LICENSING POLICY

1. Copyright Ownership

Authors publishing in the International Journal of Education and Learning Studies (IJELS) retain copyright and full publishing rights to their scholarly works without transferring copyright or granting exclusive publishing rights to the journal or publisher.

By publishing an article in IJELS, authors grant the journal, published by PT. Intelektiva Global Nusantara, a non-exclusive right of first publication and permission to publish, reproduce, distribute, archive, preserve, and disseminate the official Version of Record under the journal's open-access license.

Authors remain responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts do not infringe the intellectual property rights of others and that appropriate permissions have been obtained for copyrighted third-party material.

2. Creative Commons License

Creative Commons Attribution–ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0)

All scholarly articles published in IJELS are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution–ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0), unless specific third-party material is expressly identified as excluded from the license.

This license permits sharing, redistribution, adaptation, translation, and reuse for any lawful purpose, including commercial purposes, provided that the applicable license conditions are followed.

3. Rights of Readers and Other Users

Under CC BY-SA 4.0, readers and other users may:

  • Read, download, print, copy, and share published articles.
  • Redistribute the articles in any medium or format.
  • Translate, adapt, remix, transform, or build upon the published content.
  • Use the content for research, teaching, professional, institutional, or commercial purposes.
  • Deposit, share, or incorporate licensed material into repositories and educational resources.
  • Reuse materials without seeking additional permission when the intended use is permitted by the license.

These permissions are subject to the terms of CC BY-SA 4.0 and any clearly identified third-party rights or applicable legal limitations.

4. License Conditions

Users must comply with the following requirements when reusing licensed material:

Attribution (BY)

Give appropriate credit to the original author(s), identify the source and publication, provide a link to the applicable license, and indicate whether changes have been made. Attribution must not imply endorsement by the authors or journal.

ShareAlike (SA)

When distributing an adaptation, the adapted contributions must be licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 or another license permitted by its ShareAlike compatibility provisions.

Indication of Changes

Clearly indicate any modifications, translations, or adaptations made to the original material, where applicable.

No Additional Restrictions

Users may not impose additional legal terms or technological measures that restrict others from exercising rights permitted by the license.

5. Author Rights

As copyright holders, authors retain the right to:

  • Distribute and share their published articles.
  • Deposit manuscripts and published articles in institutional or subject repositories.
  • Post articles on personal, institutional, or academic websites.
  • Reuse their scholarly work in teaching, presentations, theses, dissertations, books, and future research.
  • Prepare translations, adaptations, and derivative works.
  • Enter into additional non-exclusive distribution arrangements, provided that the original publication in IJELS is acknowledged and existing license grants are respected.

IJELS does not require authors to transfer copyright or assign exclusive commercial rights to the publisher.

6. Repository and Self-Archiving Policy

IJELS permits authors to deposit and disseminate the submitted version, accepted manuscript, and published Version of Record in institutional repositories, subject repositories, personal websites, and other scholarly platforms.

No embargo period is imposed by IJELS on author self-archiving.

Authors are encouraged to provide complete bibliographic details and a link to the official published article, preferably using its DOI when available.

When posting a version that differs from the Version of Record, authors should identify its manuscript status to avoid confusion with the final published article.

7. Third-Party Copyrighted Material

Authors must obtain appropriate permission or rely on an applicable legal exception when including copyrighted material such as photographs, figures, tables, illustrations, instruments, or substantial extracts owned by third parties.

Third-party material not covered by the article's CC BY-SA 4.0 license must be clearly identified through an appropriate credit line, copyright statement, or permission notice.

The journal's open license does not automatically override copyright, privacy, moral rights, or other applicable rights held by third parties.

8. Immediate Open Access

IJELS provides immediate free access to its published scholarly content without a subscription, reader registration requirement, or embargo period.

Readers may access and lawfully reuse published articles in accordance with the applicable CC BY-SA 4.0 license. The journal's open-access arrangements support the dissemination, discoverability, and reuse of educational research.

9. Copyright and License Information in Published Articles

IJELS identifies the copyright holder and applicable open-access license in its published scholarly content. The copyright and license notice should be displayed consistently on article landing pages, full-text PDFs, and other publication formats where supported.

Copyright and licensing information for published articles is separate from any copyright applicable to the journal website, logo, layout, or other publisher-owned materials.

10. License Continuity and Publication Rights

Once published under CC BY-SA 4.0, the rights granted to users under that license remain effective for compliant uses. Authors retain copyright and may exercise their rights without imposing restrictions that revoke previously granted permissions under the license.

Corrections, retractions, or post-publication updates will be handled according to the journal's publication ethics and editorial policies and do not automatically cancel valid permissions previously granted under the Creative Commons license.

Open Access and Copyright Commitment

IJELS supports responsible open scholarly communication by allowing authors to retain copyright and full publishing rights while making published articles freely accessible and reusable under the Creative Commons Attribution–ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
