Electronic Archiving Policy

ELECTRONIC ARCHIVING POLICY

1. Policy Statement

Jurnal Inovasi dan Riset Pendidikan Dasar (JIRPD), published by PT. Intelektiva Global Nusantara, is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation, accessibility, authenticity, and integrity of its published scholarly content.

Electronic archiving is an essential component of responsible academic publishing. The journal recognizes the importance of preserving research articles, scholarly reviews, publication metadata, supplementary materials, and related academic records for future readers, researchers, educators, institutions, and libraries.

JIRPD supports appropriate digital preservation mechanisms and electronic archiving infrastructure to safeguard published content against data loss, technological failure, website disruption, system migration, and discontinuation of journal operations.

2. Preservation Objectives

The journal's electronic archiving strategy aims to:

  • Preserve the official Version of Record of published articles.
  • Maintain long-term access to original research and review articles in elementary education.
  • Protect publication files and metadata against accidental deletion, corruption, or system failure.
  • Support the recovery of preserved scholarly content if the original publishing platform becomes permanently unavailable.
  • Maintain the authenticity, reliability, and integrity of published research.
  • Protect the continuity of the journal's academic and bibliographic records.
  • Support sustainable dissemination of knowledge and educational research.

3. Digital Preservation Systems

PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

The PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) is a digital preservation service developed by the Public Knowledge Project to support long-term preservation of scholarly journals using Open Journal Systems (OJS).

PKP PN employs distributed preservation infrastructure designed to retain copies of eligible published journal content. Participation requires applicable technical compatibility, registration, acceptance of preservation terms, and successful processing of journal deposits.

JIRPD recognizes PKP PN as a relevant preservation mechanism for OJS-based journals and supports its use where the journal meets the applicable participation and preservation requirements.

PKP Preservation Network Information
LOCKSS — Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe

LOCKSS is a distributed preservation system designed to protect digital scholarly publications by maintaining multiple copies in participating archival locations.

Its preservation model reduces dependence on a single server and helps protect scholarly content against technical failure, corruption, and accidental loss.

The OJS LOCKSS gateway provides an archiving manifest for compatible preservation systems. The availability of this gateway does not independently confirm that journal articles have already been harvested or preserved.

CLOCKSS — Controlled LOCKSS

CLOCKSS is a community-governed digital preservation infrastructure that maintains scholarly content across distributed archival nodes.

The CLOCKSS preservation model is intended to ensure the continued availability of scholarly publications when qualifying publication-loss or access events occur.

JIRPD's OJS CLOCKSS gateway may provide the technical archiving manifest required by compatible preservation systems. Active preservation under CLOCKSS requires a valid service arrangement and verification of archived content.

4. Preserved Content

Depending on the capabilities and configuration of the applicable preservation systems, electronic archiving may include:

  • Full-text Original Research Articles and Review Articles.
  • Official publication files and associated scholarly materials.
  • Article titles, abstracts, keywords, and bibliographic metadata.
  • Author names, affiliations, and publication information.
  • Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) and citation records.
  • Volumes, issues, publication dates, and tables of contents.
  • Supplementary materials made publicly available through the journal.
  • Published corrections, retraction notices, and other post-publication updates.

Confidential manuscripts, reviewer reports, private editorial communications, and unpublished personal information are excluded from public scholarly archiving.

5. Distributed Preservation

Distributed preservation supports long-term protection of academic content by maintaining multiple authenticated copies across independent storage locations. This approach reduces the risk of losing scholarly publications because of a single server failure, cyber incident, institutional disruption, or technological change.

6. Website Continuity and Content Recovery

If the JIRPD website experiences temporary disruption, platform migration, technical failure, or permanent discontinuation, the journal seeks to maintain the possibility of recovering published scholarly materials through available backups or independent preservation services.

Where articles have been successfully deposited in a preservation network, recovery or public access is subject to the service's applicable technical arrangements and release procedures. Temporary interruption of the journal website does not automatically result in public release of preserved copies.

7. Backup and Platform Migration

To support the continuity of journal operations and scholarly publications, JIRPD and its publisher support appropriate administrative and technical measures, including:

  • Periodic backup of journal databases and publication files.
  • Secure storage of article metadata and publication records.
  • Verification of publication files, references, and links.
  • Preparation for OJS upgrades and system migration.
  • Restoration arrangements in the event of system failure or data loss.
  • Monitoring of external preservation services and deposit information.

Operational backup of the journal's website, editorial database, user accounts, and configuration is distinct from long-term preservation of published scholarly content.

8. Preservation of the Version of Record

The officially published article available on the JIRPD website constitutes the Version of Record.

Any correction, expression of concern, retraction, or other post-publication update will be handled transparently and linked to the relevant original publication in accordance with the journal's editorial and publication ethics policies.

Such notices form part of the scholarly publication record and should be retained in appropriate archiving arrangements.

9. Access, Authenticity, and Integrity

Electronic archiving aims to preserve the authenticity and reliability of published scholarly materials. Where supported by preservation systems, archived files may be verified against the official published versions to detect corruption, unauthorized modification, or loss.

Published articles remain publicly accessible through the journal website in accordance with JIRPD's open-access and licensing policies.

10. Preservation Monitoring and Verification

JIRPD recognizes that installing an OJS preservation plugin or providing an archiving gateway does not automatically establish that content has been preserved.

The editorial and technical teams should verify preservation participation and deposited content through applicable network records, plugin deposit status, service confirmations, or other relevant documentation.

Claims of active preservation through PKP PN, LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, or other services should be made only when the corresponding preservation arrangements and content coverage have been confirmed.

11. Policy Development

JIRPD may revise and strengthen its electronic archiving arrangements as new digital preservation services, institutional partnerships, repository systems, and international preservation standards become available.

Commitment to Long-Term Preservation

JIRPD is committed to preserving the long-term scholarly record of elementary education research through sustainable electronic archiving strategies, distributed preservation mechanisms, responsible data management, platform backup practices, and transparent post-publication updates.
