Peer Review Process

PEER REVIEW PROCESS
Jurnal Inovasi dan Riset Pendidikan Dasar

Jurnal Inovasi dan Riset Pendidikan Dasar (JIRPD) applies an independent, fair, confidential, and academically rigorous peer-review process for Original Research Articles and Review Articles in elementary education.

Manuscripts are evaluated based on scholarly merit, originality, methodological rigor, relevance to the journal's focus and scope, and compliance with research and publication ethics.

Review Model: Double-Blind Peer Review

Every manuscript that passes initial screening and proceeds to external review is evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with relevant disciplinary expertise. The identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from one another.

1. Initial Editorial Screening

Submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment, normally within 14 days. The assessment considers:

  • Relevance to elementary education.
  • Originality and potential scholarly contribution.
  • Appropriateness of research or review methodology.
  • Academic writing quality and manuscript structure.
  • Compliance with the Author Guidelines.
  • Submission of the Cover Letter, Title Page, and Anonymous Manuscript.
  • Publication ethics and completeness of relevant declarations.

Manuscripts that fall outside the journal's scope or fail to meet essential academic or ethical requirements may be rejected without external peer review.

2. Similarity and Plagiarism Screening

JIRPD uses appropriate similarity-detection software to screen submitted manuscripts. An overall similarity threshold of 20% is normally applied as an internal editorial screening criterion, with relevant exclusions and qualitative examination of matched sources.

Editors consider whether overlap represents properly cited material, unacceptable text reuse, plagiarism, or redundant publication. A low similarity score does not guarantee originality.

3. Reviewer Selection and Independence

Reviewers are appointed based on expertise, methodological competence, independence, and the absence of relevant conflicts of interest.

Additional reviewers may be appointed where specialist assessment is required or review recommendations substantially differ. Reviewers must disclose relevant conflicts before accepting an assignment.

4. Review Criteria

Reviewers assess manuscripts based on:

  • Originality and scholarly contribution to elementary education.
  • Clarity of objectives and theoretical foundation.
  • Research design or review methodology.
  • Appropriateness of instruments and analytical procedures.
  • Reliability of findings and critical discussion.
  • Implications for elementary school teaching, learning, and educational development.
  • Accuracy and relevance of citations.
  • Compliance with research ethics, including participant protection where applicable.

Review Articles are additionally assessed for transparent literature selection, synthesis procedures, and the significance of their conclusions.

5. Reviewer Recommendations

  • Accept: Suitable for publication.
  • Minor Revision: Limited improvements are required.
  • Major Revision: Substantial revisions and possible further evaluation are required.
  • Reject: Does not meet scholarly or editorial standards.

Reviewer recommendations inform but do not determine editorial decisions. The final decision is the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief or an authorized editor.

6. Author Revision and Re-evaluation

Authors must provide a revised manuscript and a point-by-point response to reviewer comments. Relevant modifications should be clearly identified.

Major revisions may be returned to reviewers for further assessment. A revised manuscript is not automatically accepted.

7. Reviewer Ethics and Confidentiality

All manuscripts, review reports, and related editorial communications are confidential. Reviewers must provide constructive and evidence-based assessments, avoid unauthorized sharing of unpublished work, and disclose relevant competing interests.

Suspected plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or other ethical concerns should be reported to the editor.

8. Final Editorial Decision

The Editor-in-Chief or authorized handling editor considers reviewer reports, manuscript quality, author responses, and ethical compliance when making the final decision.

Editorial decisions must remain free from inappropriate commercial, financial, institutional, or personal influence. Editors with significant conflicts must withdraw from handling affected manuscripts.

9. Editorial Timeline and Publication

The external peer-review stage normally requires 14–30 days. The complete editorial process generally takes approximately 30–60 days, depending on review rounds, author revisions, and editorial workload.

These timeframes are estimates and are not guaranteed. Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, proofreading, metadata verification, and publication according to the journal's schedule.

10. Editorial Records and Accountability

JIRPD maintains relevant records of reviewer assignments, review reports, author revisions, editorial correspondence, and final decisions through its manuscript management procedures.

These records support consistency, accountability, and the assessment of peer-review quality while protecting confidential reviewer identities.
