Post-Publication Discussion Policy

POST-PUBLICATION DISCUSSION POLICY

1. Policy Statement

The Indonesian Journal of Community Service in Education (IJCSE), published by PT. Intelektiva Global Nusantara, recognizes post-publication discussion as an important mechanism for maintaining transparency, accountability, and scholarly integrity in educational community service and community engagement publications.

IJCSE welcomes constructive, evidence-based comments, questions, critical evaluations, and clarifications concerning published community service activities, program implementation, evaluation methods, reported outcomes, and educational or social implications.

Post-publication discussion enables researchers, educators, community partners, practitioners, and readers to contribute to the responsible evaluation and development of published knowledge.

The journal considers relevant Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidance in handling scholarly discussion, reported errors, and publication integrity concerns.

2. Objectives of Post-Publication Discussion

The policy is intended to:

  • Encourage constructive academic discussion concerning educational community service publications.
  • Promote transparent evaluation of community needs, program implementation, and documented results.
  • Allow authors and community partners to clarify relevant questions about published activities.
  • Support identification of inaccurate reports, unsupported impact claims, or other substantive errors.
  • Encourage responsible interpretation and replication of effective educational community engagement practices.
  • Preserve the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of published community service scholarship.

3. Forms of Post-Publication Discussion

Scholarly Comments and Letters to the Editor

Academic comments addressing published community service methods, implementation procedures, evaluation findings, outcomes, or conclusions.

Author Responses and Clarifications

Explanations from original authors concerning program implementation, participant involvement, evaluation procedures, or interpretation of community service outcomes.

Community Partner Feedback

Relevant, evidence-based clarification or feedback from participating institutions, community organizations, educators, or authorized representatives concerning published community engagement activities.

Reports of Errors and Omissions

Notifications concerning inaccurate activity descriptions, program data, participant information, figures, evaluation results, references, or other reporting errors.

Publication Integrity Concerns

Confidential allegations involving fabricated community activities, falsified evaluation data, duplicate publication, manipulated photographs, plagiarism, privacy violations, or other serious concerns. Such matters are referred to the journal's Research Misconduct and Retraction Policies.

4. Who May Participate

Researchers, authors, readers, educators, reviewers, community organizations, partner institutions, and other relevant parties may contribute to post-publication discussions concerning IJCSE articles.

Formal academic discussions should include the contributor's name, relevant affiliation, contact information, and disclosure of competing interests.

Where reports concern research misconduct or participant protection, anonymous submissions may be considered when sufficiently specific and supported by credible evidence.

Community participants' privacy and confidentiality must be respected throughout the discussion process.

5. Submission of Comments and Concerns

Comments and concerns may be submitted through IJCSE's official editorial communication channel.

Submissions should provide:

  • The title and DOI or URL of the original published article.
  • The contributor's name, relevant affiliation, and contact information.
  • A clear explanation of the comment, question, or concern.
  • Appropriate evidence, references, or supporting documentation.
  • A disclosure of relevant competing interests or involvement in the reported program.
  • Clarification of whether the submission concerns scholarly interpretation, factual accuracy, or suspected misconduct.

Contributions must be accurate, evidence-based, respectful, and related to the published material. Personal accusations, defamatory statements, discriminatory content, and unsupported claims will not be accepted as formal scholarly discussion.

Submission of participant-identifying materials must comply with privacy, confidentiality, consent, and applicable ethical requirements.

6. Editorial Assessment and Discussion Procedure

IJCSE follows a structured editorial procedure for post-publication discussion:

  1. Receipt and Registration: The editorial office receives and records the submission.
  2. Preliminary Assessment: The Editor-in-Chief or designated editor evaluates its relevance, evidence, significance, and suitability for scholarly discussion.
  3. Independent Assessment: Relevant academic or professional expertise may be sought when needed to evaluate technical, methodological, or program-related concerns.
  4. Author Notification: Substantive comments may be forwarded to the corresponding author of the original article.
  5. Opportunity to Respond: Authors are invited to provide appropriate explanations or supporting evidence within a reasonable period.
  6. Editorial Determination: The editor decides whether to publish the discussion, request clarification, decline the submission with reasons, or refer the matter to another editorial policy.
  7. Publication and Linking: Accepted formal comments and responses are made accessible through the journal's publication platform and linked to the relevant article where technically supported.
  8. Further Action: Significant verified errors or integrity concerns are referred to the journal's corrective or research misconduct procedures.

The editorial office may continue reviewing credible concerns even if the original authors do not provide a response.

7. Author Responses and Community Engagement Dialogue

Authors are encouraged to respond constructively to legitimate academic and community-related questions about their published work.

Responses should explain relevant program procedures, evaluation indicators, implementation limitations, reported achievements, and interpretation of findings.

Where appropriate, accepted comments and author responses may be published together as part of the journal's scholarly record.

Community feedback should be evaluated fairly while respecting the confidentiality, dignity, and rights of participating individuals and institutions.

The journal may limit repetitive exchanges or correspondence that does not provide substantive additional evidence or scholarly value.

8. Corrections, Expressions of Concern, and Retractions

If post-publication discussion identifies significant problems concerning the accuracy, authenticity, ethical status, or reliability of published community service scholarship, IJCSE will assess the matter under its Research Misconduct, Correction, and Retraction Policies.

Correction

A correction may be issued when an identifiable reporting error can be addressed without invalidating the article's main findings or documented outcomes.

Expression of Concern

An expression of concern may be issued when serious questions about a published activity, reported outcome, or ethical issue remain unresolved and readers need to be informed.

Retraction

Retraction may be warranted when published activities or outcomes are substantially fabricated, falsified, plagiarized, ethically unacceptable, or otherwise unreliable as scholarly evidence.

Formal notices must clearly identify the affected article, explain the editorial action, and remain linked to the original publication. The journal will not silently replace or substantially modify the Version of Record to conceal errors or publication misconduct.

9. Fairness, Confidentiality, and Editorial Independence

IJCSE is committed to fair and impartial handling of post-publication comments and concerns.

Editors must assess scholarly contributions based on their academic relevance and supporting evidence, without inappropriate influence from authors, institutions, sponsors, community partners, or other interested parties.

Editors with relevant competing interests must not determine the outcome of affected cases.

Confidential allegations will be handled with appropriate care, and the individuals concerned should be given a reasonable opportunity to respond where circumstances permit.

Requests for reconsideration may be submitted through the journal's complaints and appeals mechanism when new evidence or significant procedural concerns are identified.

10. Documentation, Transparency, and Policy References

IJCSE maintains appropriate editorial records of post-publication submissions, substantive author responses, assessments, and resulting decisions.

Formal scholarly exchanges, corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions should remain accessible and be linked to the relevant original publication. Appropriate bibliographic metadata will be provided where technically supported.

Relevant ethical guidance includes:
